Literacy Lab ($424,087) to serve children and parents through three projects: A pop up pre-school pilot program with the Lighthouse Charter Community School that will serve pre-school children, parents/caregivers, and educators and an interactive learning and reading program in OUSD pre-schools and Increased access to literacy resources and expansion in OUSD Transitional Kindergarten. ($85,000) Funding to provide ten faith based organizations and nine new transitional kindergarten classrooms with early learning programs, such as parent workshops, quality bookcase libraries and a take home book bag program.

Lincoln Child Center ($150,000) for action research on chronic absenteeism in five Oakland elementary schools that will assess, capture data, and provide direct services for first grade students. Lighthouse Community Charter School($63,427) to support preschool students and their caregivers who will participate in an interactive learning and reading program (in partnership with Literacy Lab). Jumpstart for Young Children($20,000) for Jumpstart Oakland, a program that serves children in preschool classrooms, helping them develop the language, literacy and social skills needed for school readiness. Great Oakland Public Schools Leadership Center($250,000) to increase family access to high quality early childhood programs and the integration of early childhood and K-12 systems. Girls Incorporated of Alameda County($50,000) to support Girls Inc.’s Summer Literacy Program. The Rainin Foundation seeks to ensure that all children in Oakland develop the social, emotional, and cognitive skills they need to thrive in kindergarten and to become successful readers by third grade.
